Layout and painting

At the beginning of the globe’s construction, a dozen layers of paint are needed to ensure a consistent base.

The sphere is then completely sanded by hand and on the newly smoothed surface, master craftsmen begin pencil drawing meridians, parallels and contours of the Earth.

One-by-one, the continents and oceans are painted.

Each step is followed by several layers of varnish and then sanded.

Finally, comes the layout for the rivers, lakes and reliefs; always redrawn with paint or ink.

The various steps require three to five months, depending upon the size of the sphere.
